Can anyone suggest a suitable deuterated solvent to dissolve chitin for NMR analyses?
Sulfuric acid-d2 in d2o should work since chitin should dissolve in acidic environment
DMSO-D6 or CDCl3. Have you looked into literature references as to what to expect when you run a nmr scan on chitin or is this some unknown compound related to chitin?

The authors state:
In the present work, chitin was dissolved completely in 8 wt% NaOH/4 wt% urea aqueous solution via the freezing/thawing method to prepare transparent solutions without derivatization.

unfortunately we don't have any acidic solvents deuterated in our Lab, we only have: DMSO-D6,D2O, Deuterated chloroform,Deuterated methanol.
in this point I would like to react chitin with concentrated HCl at 25 C° to hydrolysis chitin to N-acetylglucosamine.
after that, I'll washing it with deionized water until pH=7, then I 'll put the monosaccharide into DMSO-D6 or D2O.
