I encountered some difficulty in finding a suitable polymer material for my experiment.
My purpose is to spread metal nanoparticles on a polymer layer and I hope the polymer can hold the particles tightly. My current approach is spread the polymer on a glass substrate, then heat the polymer up to its glass transition, spread the NPs, and get it pressed.
The adhesion of the polymer is not bad but my current issues is the polymer I used now (PMMA) has a hazy appearance after spreading on the glass. I need transparent clear polymer that can act as glue for my metal nanoparticles.
Any direct suggestion or maybe some reference suggestion?
you can use transparent epoxy (fast curing) or PDMS, though they have to undergo curing reaction. Not sure if that would help
If you do this then defiantly you have uniformly distributed NPs in X,Y and Z direction
I have make PLGA transparent film by solvent (CHCl3, acetone) casting.
I think epoxy is a good suggestions since you will get very good bonding to metal particles. If you have access to a spin coater and UV light, you could also try a transparent photoresist (negative type photoresist, preferably epoxy functional, SU8 for example)
The polycarbonate ( trade name: Lexan) made by the condensation polymerization of (Bisphenol A ) with (phosgene or diphenyl carbonate) has been described by eminent polymer chemists " in a famous statement": Strong as steel & transparent as glass. Of course, they meant the ordinary inorganic glass.
If you need high fixation of the metal particles on a highly transparent base material poly(thiourethanes) based on short chain thiols and trimerized cycloaliphatic diisocyanates could be a suitable choice. Such systems are provided by Performance Chemicals HGmbH at Hamburg, Germany.
