Most of the private higher institutions in Africa are struggling with staggering costs of publications due to price hikes and difficult policy environments in different sectors. Moreover, they do not enjoy much support from the public coffers. Nor are they receiving assistance from development partners that invest relatively heavily in public sectors.
I wonder if there are philanthropist individuals, NGOs, bilateral or multilateral agencies interested in providing support for private universities to produce text and reference books, or who may donate educational materials including computers, books and periodicals.
I believe the post-2015 development agenda should give attention to strengthening the capacity of private higher institutions of learning which provide access to often marginal students, particularly girls.

Not all books or other materials are useful or appropriate. Could you thus be specific about the target group (the age group, the kind of school they attend if any, etc.) and the purpose (to improve their language/communication skills, help them with science, to help them with practical skills, etc.)?
With respect to donating computers my recent experience made it clear that donating used computers is very difficult because the Ethiopian custom authorities require many documents (certificate of donation, memorandum of understanding, ISO certificate and commercial invoice.) that will not be available for used computers. Therefore, please indicate where and how the donated materials can be provided.

Thanks for your response and practical questions. I am aware of (1) the broad and open-ended nature of my request. It was intentional. I wanted to first stimulate interest and then to zoom in when individuals, groups or institutions come forward and ask specific procedures.
The books I want to raise are for high schools to TVET college levels in rural areas. I have been asked by woreda officials in South Wollo (Legehida Woreda) who are preparing to build a TVET College. Therefore the books they want will be on science, technology, ICT, and related skills-building materials for rural communities: agribusiness, food processing, construction, poultry, dairy farm and dairy processing, just to mention a few.
With regard to the used/refurbished computers, I will have check with the relevant government offices as to their requirement. Will come back to you soon.

If you would send me the list of books, journals etc. you need, and give me short explanation how it could help you (Ethiopia does not have any need of stupid high-end medical support, but proper help), then I will raise 100k$ annually. As you see, western docs did not answer your request. Lets have a look, if they do not answer mine...
