it depends on which applying/research field is concerned, if you talk about shop scheduling, for instance, you should look at hoist scheduling problems... could you precise a little bit please, best regards

A specific issue that you might like to look at is related to "postponement." Here specific steps of the production process are procrastinated along the supply chain. This is a nice area combining various production and transportation options.
