I am looking for metadata structures suitable to describe historical tattoos. Are you aware of any projects which developed a metadata schema for such a purpose? Many thanks for your help.
I believe this would depend on why and how the tattoos are being stored as archived objects. Is it meant to be stored as it is on the skin, or as a surrogate photograph (or something else)? Is the body viewed as a custodian or as a canvas? Is the tattooist viewed as a artist or a technician? Is the tattoo viewed as a cultural, historical or art object or replication/representation of another object? There are many questions to be answered before the core question can be answered.
Hi there, it is indeed a good question. I do not know the existence of any other metadata schema on tattoo except the one mentioned by Kim. However, I think the above schema is a good one to start with although is not sufficient enough. It missed out many of the important aspects such as genre, types, name, medical hazards, historical perspectives, and so forth. Also, I differ in the way the categories are created and named in this schema.
