I have collected the specimen from Visakhapatnam fishing harbour. I have little confusion for identification of the species. If possible any one identify the species.
This is a species of the genus Pseudanthias (Athiadinae, Serranidae), but obviously not P. pillai which has been known from the area. The species on your photograph looks similar to Pseudanthias marcia Randall & Hoover 1993 which is known from Socotra and Oman. Please consult the revisionary work by Heemstra & Akhilesh (2012), and Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes:
Heemstra, P. C. and K. V. Akhilesh 2012 (15 July) [ref. 32094] A review of the anthiine fish genus Pseudanthias (Perciformes: Serranidae) of the western Indian Ocean, with description of a new species and a key to the species. aqua, International Journal of Ichthyology v. 18 (no. 3): 121-164.
Thank you for your identification. Again I checked the specimens that caudal fin slightly convex to truncate and upper rays distinctly elongated, forming a long filament like. These characters matching with Pseudanthias marcia. Once again thank you Sir. Weather this is new record in Indian waters.
If it is indeed P. marcia, and indeed collected near Visakhapatnam, it would represent a new record for India, and a considerable range extension for the species.
The species appears Pseudanthias marcia and have earlier been reported from Indian from SW coast as per the reference "Nair, R.J., 2008. Taxonomic account of Marcia’s anthias, Pseudanthias marcia Randall & Hoover, 1993 (Serranidae: Anthiinae), a new record from India. Journal of the Marine Biological Association of India, 50(1): 98-102. " . It could possibly a new record fro east coast of India.
