Does anyone know a method to inactivate bacteriophages from binding to cells? or infecting cells? I just found a paper talking about pomegranate extracts.
Obviously, the method can't affect the cells, precisely Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Any suggestion would be really appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.
Thanks Sadhana, but whouldn't it kill my cells? I use chloroform to actually kill the cells and after filtration, my phage is still active :(

E. coli reduces the numbers of λ receptors on the cell surface in response to N-acyl-L-homoserine lactone (AHL) quorum-sensing signals, causing a 2-fold reduction in the phage adsorption rate.

The use of virucides to selectively inactivate phage while leaving the host cells intact has been described extensively as part of the Phage Amplificaiton Assay. Basically you just need to find a reagent that will inactivate the phage that does not affect the cells - many different reagents will work, but they need to be optimised for each phage - host pair. We have successfully used tea extracts (paper attached) to replace the original pomegranate rind extracts, but you can also try dilute acids or hydrogen peroxide.
