This fruit is readily sold by the local vendors in Kokrajhar, Assam during winter. The fruits is bitter in taste and has usually eight seed.
The morphology of the plant is not known to me.

It look like some Cucurbitaceae fruit. But then the statement that eight seeds is confusing. Can you cut open one fruit and put a photograph.
It seems Hodgsonia macrocarpa (Blume) Cogn. (Cucurbitaceae) species from Himalaya.
It is obviously a cucurbit but needs plant and flower picture to identify it properly.

This is not pumpkin and there is no doubt about it. This resembles Hodgsonia as per literature but now the confusion lies with the species. How can we ascertain whether it is Hodgsonia macrocarpa or H. heteroclita
Morphologically, fruits belongs to Family Cucurbitacea.There are region specific wild type and cultivated species do exists, unless you present the photos of seeds,flowers, it is not possible to further identify and say it is cucurbita maxima (pumkin or giant pumkin),or other?
is a curcubitacea but the seed is very large, would be best to refer to a herbarium for proper identification
It is a Hodgsonia, and therefore it is a Cucurbitaceae.
Photographs are insufficient to determine the species.
