The biotreatment of petroleum hydrocarbons has been evaluated using various bioreactors in aerobic, anoxic, and anaerobic metabolic conditions. in the fixed-bed bioreactor (FBR), The packed bed biofilm reactors are the preferred method of choice for treatment of xenobiotic and refractory compounds. The main advantages of fixed-bed biofilm reactors as compared to the suspended growth bioreactors resulted from the presence of a higher concentration of dense biomass as the biofilm. It, in turn, provides a longer residence time for the slow-growing bacteria involved in hydrocarbons biodegradation, higher reliability, shorter startup period, more resistance to shock loads and toxic substances, better control of process parameters, higher applied contaminant load, and higher biodegradation rate.

Any prospective leads and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.
