Hi all, I tried to get Bipolaris panici-miliacei sporulated in culture but even after several attempts it was not successful. I used different media and conditions but it didn't sporulate on culture. Can anyone give a suggestion on how to get this fungus sporulated? Thanks in advance.
You can try adding sterilised Zea mays leaves on 1.5% Water Agar plates and culture your ioslate in this.
Sexual morph can be induced in Sach's agar with sterilized rice or wheat straw at 25 °C.

Most fungi reproduce by forming spores that can survive extreme conditions such as cold/heat and lack of water/nutrients. So, the theory behind the asexual morph forming in the culture is supplying stress conditions (nutrient, water, light/uv). In my experience, I have added pine needles or wooden toothpicks to water agar medium to stimulate asexual morph sporulation. As well, I have kept my cultures to become old (around 2/3 or more months). This worked for me for some species in the order Pleosporales, but I never studied for genus Bipolaris.

You can try less nutrient media (eg. Water agar). Also, you can use fully-grown cultures and scratch the culture surface (mycelial mass) using a well heated microscope slide. The idea is giving the stress to the culture through burning the mycelia. this will induce the spore production.
