When I worked on Donax faba (adult one) I found irregular shape. The same thing happened to D. faba. But it does not mean that a new species. The growth line of your specimen is completely changed. It may be mutation or just irregular shape due to environmental factor (like substratum.....etc.).

Dr Hu, thanks for the species information. Only 2 species Vepricardium asiaticum (Bruguière, 1789) and V. coronatum (Schröter, 1786) that has beeb recorded from the area of collection (Gulf of Mannar). V. multispinosum is not recorded from Indian waters.
Dr Tenjing, it is the abnormal character that has made this Vepricardium spp. special.
Hello Samuel. I agree with other friends: it is certainly an anomal "Cardium". I think this is an example of Vepricardium asiaticum. Indeed ornamentation (thorns) present on the coasts seem to those typical of this species. Ciao Gianluigi
