From my experience I have found EtBr to be the best. But If you have to go with a safer option you will have to add 10 to 20 microlitre of Sybrsafe or Sybr Green for 10 ml of gel.

Use Gel red. It is more sensitive and safer than EtBr

We have used SYBRgold in the past with great success. It is about 10X more sensitive than EtBr. When SYBRsafe came out, we switched to that and have had similar results, and it is presumably safer (personally and environmentally) to use.

GelRed and SYBRsafe works both wonderful. I prefer GelRed because you can store it at RT.
