I would appreciate comments on how reliable could be the difference between chronology of dyke emplacement and lava flows to consider them as part of the same magmatic event.
In case you have not already come across it, I recommend you take a look at Ernst & Buchan (1997) and the references therein. They undertook a comprehensive collation of global dyke-swarm and corresponding LIP age data, in the context of plume-induced continental breakup.
Its an old-ish, but frequently cited piece of work, so I’m sure that a review of the paper’s citation list in Google Scholar will throw up any more recent studies of its type.
