I want to consider the index S&P BSE Carbonex for my studies. The fact sheet of this index (8th page - attached file) shows the launch date, first value date, and base date for this index. From which date is the closing price of the index consider ed (ie., launch date or base date)?
Closing prices go back to 30/09/10. My guess is that it was not launched until 30th Nov. meaning that you could not trade it until then. However, better to ask S&P if you want to be really sure.
I think it will be base date. A reading of the methodology-sp-bse-carbonex indicates that we should take the base date of 30-09-2010 as the base value for that date is also fixed as 1000.
