Practically, researchers are citing the related research to justify / add value to our point. But some of the researchers mentioned their own research (self citation) in the research work.
Does the self citation is acceptable and really give justification or add value to the points in journal editors' point of view?
Self-citations can sometimes provide important context for a study, e.g. the new study may be building on previous findings by the same author. However, self-citation can become a problem if it is used to artificially boost citations of an author's work or if it ignores the work of others working in the same area. If practised to reasonable levels and when one's own work is cited within the context of other general research in the same area, it is acceptable.
SELF CITATION should be used only when the prior work laid the foundation for subsequent (present) work. The use of self citation for self-promotion should be avoided.
