Numerous factors influence the attitude of students in choosing majors... to measures the impact such factors measurement scale is required
In my opinion use a Likert scale for preferences of students and also for considerations which guided their choice.
This is interesting Ashraf...never crossed my mind such scale exists to help students to choose their majors. Hope to hear more feedbacks.

This is a very important question related to some of us that try every day to prepare students and inspire that to open horizons and win on the difficult world.
The question is very complex and require a accurate questionnaire with many block of variables, namely, the social and environmental characterization, the motivation and skills of students, the rankings of the Universities and the importance of them for students, the main sources of information of the students, the parents and family values, the main goals and motivation of students.
I recommend the Theory of Planned Behavior (likert scale) for some kind of questions and at the same time open and close questions. But that depends the resources that you have and the population that you want to study and the support to apply the present questionnaire.
Congratulations for your interest in that important subj etc that are common to all of us that want to prepare students better in a conflicting and complex and changing world.
