I have fungal contamination in my macroalgal culture. Fungal contamination is severely degrading, defragmenting, and bleaching the algal thallus. I welcome any suggestion to remove it.
Hi Ravi. Cycloheximide is what I use as an antifungal agent in my media. I've never cultured seaweed, but I assume it would still be beneficial. I usually add 1mL of 1mg/L cycloheximide for every liter of media. Again, this is media I use for freshwater algae, but best of luck!
Removal of fungal infections from algal cultures is extremely challenging as their potential to sporulate often causes recurrent infections. You may need to try several fungicides to identify which will target the fungus without killing your macroalgae. Fluazinam has been successfully used in several algal species.
