I am interested to know few applications on Internet of Things (IoT) using FPGAs.
It depends on what is meant by IoT. I do not expect FPGAs in consumer IoT devices, because they aim for absolutely low costs and FPGAs are relatively expensive even for larger quantities.
The picture is different for applications in research and industry, especially when it comes to distributed and wireless acquisition of multimedia data. FPGAs can be used to significantly reduce the required amount of data rate by preprocessing and data compression. I was involved in projects from both sides (multimedia preprocessing and wireless data transmission), so I would be very interested to see something that combines these.
Hello, there is an interesting survey in Sensors (2012, Vol 12), called "Sensors Systems Based on FPGAs and their Applications: A Survey", which claims that a combination of inexpensive sensors based on microcontrollers + FPGAs could bring some interesting benefits... Have a good day

I agree with Florian Meier, it largely depends on the application of the IoT system, and the tasks it is intended to perform. If this system should process and transmit data arrays in real time, and the processing includes performing some time-consuming tasks, FPGAs could be used there effectively as a low-cost and energy-efficient platform for application specific hardware components implementation, if general-purpose processors, DSPs of GPUs cannot execute these tasks in appropriate time. Examples of such widely used tasks – fast orthogonal transformations in signal/image processing (FFT, FCT etc.), cryptographic data protection (AES, Threefish, DES etc.), data compression (JPEG. MPEG, LZW), error-detecting coding (CRC).
There are expectations that FPGAs (and other reconfigurable hardware) application in IoT will grow up in future while IoT development will go on.

FPGAs alone do not support full Internet Protocol stacks. It takes a ridiculous amount of effort just to implement UDP with a vendor-supplied MAC layer. You can get suitably low power FPGAs from a number of vendors, e.g. IGLOO from Microsemi, but you will need a microcontroller for the Internet Protocol. Lots of people are currently using a T.I. part. I can find out the part number next week, I do not remember it offhand. You'll probably need a low power wireless network as well, which the T.I. part supports.
