I want to write a RCWA matlab code for calculating reflectance and transmission of TM polarization wave from a simple binary grating. the attached code is based on the paper by Moharam ''Formulation for stable and efficient implementation of rigorous coupled-wave analysis of binary gratings,''. I don't know what is the problem that I get the absorption about 50% for an arbitrary grating that is wrong.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone help me or send me an m file if has worked before.

This website contains links to recorded videos, links to the electronic notes, benchmarking tools, and other resources. To work your way up to RCWA without all the extra stuff, I recommend going through Lectures 4,5,7,8,18,19,20-23.
After this, take a look at the benchmarking documents. They take you step by step through several RCWA simulations showing all intermediate results. You can use this to verify the order of your steps as well as verifying your calculations. This implementation of RCWA is a little different than what you are doing, but I think you will find this implementation much more powerful and maybe easier to follow than what you currently have.

You do not need RCWA for this. You can simulate it with a simple transfer matrix method (TMM), which should be a bit easier for you to implement. See lecture 4, 5a, and 5b at the following link. In fact, even if you ultimately want to learn RCWA, the TMM is a great intermediate step and all of the concepts and even much of the code is the same for RCWA.

In addition, there is a benchmarking document at this same website that shows all of the intermediate results so that you can get your own code working very easily. The electronic notes have been improved considerably since the videos were recorded, but everything should still be good for learning the method.
