Dear all, if you can share any experience of Diabetes induction in HEK cell lines? And to be sure of induction of Diabetes, what will be the major procedure?
Diabetes in an individual is caused for a variety of reasons (and their combinations).
As such, one cannot induce "diabetes" in a cell. One can however, expose a cell to conditions that prevail in an animal during diabetes from a specific (or a set of) perspective(s) that interest one - for example, elevated levels of glucose, triglycerides, fatty acids, cholesterol etc.
You cannot induce diabetes in cell lines. However as mentioned by Tausif Alam, you can determine various other parameters associated with the disorder.
In case of HEK cells (which are Human embryonic kidney cells 293), you can expose them to high glucose conditions (usually 25-35 mM glucose) and determine effect of hyperglycemic condition of cell viability, cell growth, oxidative stress etc.
