I have noted that if a solution containing 0.1 M triethanolamine adjusted to pH 5.3 is mixed with soils of pH 4.5 or 6.5, the suspension pH is maintained near to 5.3 +_ 0.2.
Triethanolamine (TEA) is a viscous organic compounds having both a tertiary amine and a triol. TEA is a strong base of 1% solution have a pH of approximately 10. The three different hydroxyl groups attached to TEA may get protonated between pH 5.5 and 6.0.
Many thanks for your kind reply. I wish to know the respective pH values at which single hydroxyl group followed by two hydroxyl groups and ultimately all three hydroxyl groups may get protonated in triethanolamine molecule..
