Many respondents tells the first one as Chondrus. I'm quite curious to have the chemical analysis done. Could you please send us some dry material if available and don't mind. From the chemical analysis, we can establish its identification as well as economic utility if found it is Chondrus.
thanks for all your suggestions and the sixth one still doubt, Champia parvula algae is crimson red in colour but this one pure white in color while collected as epiphytes.
The image of Hypnea is from under water canopy, however, you may check the characters of it with H. spinella (H. spinella specimans are generallythicker, but that should not be the sloe criteria, unless you really go about its anatomy and reproductive structures). To me the other one in question is C. muelleri, but if you have doubt check with Griffithsia opuntioides J.Agardh (which but forms smaller thallus).
The image -6 appears to be a species of Champia C. parvula or perhaps C.salicornioides
Please look for for these features(other than for the colour which could vary due to various reasons) as given in the book "Seaweeds of India :
3 – 7 cm tall, gelatinous, segmented, mostly epiphytic , thallus closely branched with decumbent and erect branches with obtuse tips, segments barrel shaped, slightly constricted near the septa, as long as broad or much longer.
Do the branches arise from the nodal region?Could you upload a close up picture with few branches.Anatomical studies and sequence analysis could confirm its identity.
yes sir even me too following that "seaweeds of India" book for identification and also referring some other books for confirmation. Now i finished my Ph.D on 8th of August 2016, here in Andaman's, so collecting sample again and doing molecular studies is not possible in these remote place.
Yes. We can help you with molecular as well as biochemical studies, more particularly, for those hitherto not been reported from Indian coast or in cases where taxonomic ambiguity persists. We have excellent infrastructure and expertise for conducting above mentioned studies if desired.
Yes, you can go a head with preparation of a joint proposal. CSIR-CSMCRI will do the molecular biology and biochemical studies where as your self can contribute to the collection and identification part of the project. We have a procedure to follow for collaborative works. You please send a formal letter of interest to the Director, CSIR-CSMCRI, and thereafter they will send you the guidelines for preparation and submission of proposal. By the way, I will not be qualifying to take any new projects as I will superannuate after two years.
