In trying to set up an HPLC system we are using 1100 series (columncomp, IsoPump) and 1200 series (degasser, ALS, MWD, RID) components, but the software only recognizes the 1200 series components. Does anyone know if it is possible to interface the two systems?

I guess for you it will be more a software than a hardware issue.
You have to be careful and may invest some time to get the LAN connection working (connection between the part are via LAN cables, you need the right IP adresses and the right software setup), but in general it is absolutely no problem to combine 1100 and 1200 series. Of course they state that if you want to have the best results/highest resolution and sensitivity, you may use only the newest parts. We use a 1100 HPLC with a new 6230 ESI/TOF instrument and during installation, the technician had plenty of work to do to get all the new and old parts running and "talking" with each other. If you need help, I strongly recommend the Agilent support - I was never disappointed after calling them, they always had a solution for my problems.
It's a very easy solution with 1050 and 1100 components. It is NOT easy with 1100 and 1200 components, as the communication protocol changed when Agilent went to the 1200 system. When you select the 1200 components in the setup menu the Agilent software automatically assumes that it is LAN-based commmunications. You might be able to get around this by dropping back a revision or two in software; if you are using the newest software it may be very difficult to get it to recognize the 1100 modules.
Thanks everyone for your answers. For those who were wondering, yes it is possible, but all modules must have the same firmware, which can be updated in a variety of ways. Agilent has extensive documentation on their website but it tends to be rather technical.
