I have received a series of mails from some international publishers requesting me to give my consent for the publication of some of my scientific articles that were published in peer-review open access journals as book chapters in their upcoming book series. Is this ethically right? What are your advice for me?
Note: I have received mails from close to 5 different publishers already.
Your findings that have been published in various journals could be brought together in a review or book chapter if the findings in the published papers are extensions of one another. However, the review/book chapter would be written afresh stating how one finding extends pre-existing data and answers previous questions raised; it should not be a "copy and paste" of the papers. This is ethical.
However, be sure that the invites you got are from genuine/reputable publishers.
Yes, I fully agree with Roland Eghoghosoa Akhigbe, you cannot use the exact same article, but would need rewrite and combine various pieces of research to turn it into something new! Also be sure to run your chapter through Turnitin (or equivalent software) to ensure that you have not unintentionally copied your own and/or others published work/content!
Peter - as Roland and Rodney have alluded to - check the history and quality of the publishers. The likelihood is that they are 'predatory' and are soliciting a very wide number of people to just 'throw' together a bunch of publications - where their primary objective is collecting the APC revenue - at the expense of quality.
An important question is the copyright requirements of the journal you originally published in. In many cases the journal will not allow this, unless THEY are the publisher of the book.

Actually, a journal indexed by a well known index should not and do not prefer a push strategy. They already receive many good papers to evalauate. I have no doubt that these journals are predators. Just ignore them :)
I have seen some renowned authors to republish 'same content' as book chapter which were published as research article in international journal earlier...
I think that’s possible only if the publisher is the same. I published an article in a journal in 2014, and after few years, the journal contacted me asking about the possibilty of publishing the article as a book chapter.

I think others too can learn from some of the experience shared here.
Exactly the same articles cannot be published word by word, to avoid self-plagiarism wordings must be changed keeping the meaning same. However this can have lower academic value as everybody would realize that the same article has been published twice instead of a new article.
Personally, I believe a published work can not be republished as Book Chapter and it is meaningless. Suppose, the book 'XYZ' is a combination of published articles X, Y, and Z respectively. In this case, the author can just publish a book within one page like for this chapter readers can visit this link (article link) and other chapters follow that links.......you can also think about the Publisher's copyright issue, self-plagiarism, and research ethics.....
This is not wise to do. Some publishers do it in the contexts of anniversaries or in case of translated works.
In the Contemporary Military Challenges the editorial board decided to reprint some articles in dedication to honor the authors from the past. In 2012 we selected the best articles published in Slovenian language, translated them in English, and they were published again to reach bigger audience.
Very interesting trend. However, in my situation, I am thinking of republishing my book chapter as a review article because the book chapter is not scopus-indexed. Is this ethical? Thanks
