I suffer Chron and have a medium perforated septum nasal(back side) and I have been told that if I straighten it, it can generate a saddle nose ! I read that some people can breathe through the nose with a saddle nose and others cannot. Am i right ? Thank you !
Saddle nose is a cosmetic problem of the dorsum of the nose. although some patients can breathe normally, some patients may have obstruction especially with nasal septal deviation.
For your case, decision may be made depending on clinical examination, size of perforation, its cause and whether it is symptomatic or not.
Saddle nose is a cosmetic deformity, it’s usually not related with breathing problem until and unless associated with nasal septal deviation. Further decision can be given after clinical examination.

Saddle nose doesn't usually cause complete nasal obstruction. If you are afraid that Chron's disease will lead to saddle nose deformity, then you can opt for prosthesis for septal perforation.
1.If the nasal symptoms can be attributed to septal perforation then surgery should be done.
2.If the perforation is small then a septal button can be used and no surgery is required and there is no question of saddle nose in this case.
3.If surgery is required then a saddle nose may occur although in a very few cases.However it usually does not cause nasal blockage but the external appearance of nose is a bit unpleasant.
4.saddle nose can also be corrected if there is a need.

Yes. Saddle nose can affect both cosmetic and functional properties of the nose. If the involvement of the cartillage septum is extensive that it affects the internal nasal valve. Nasal breathing may get affected.
