I have been working on producing CNT's using a freshly designed cold walled CVD reactor. as catalyst I use iron nanoparticles. hot surface is graphite and temparature is between 500C and 700C. C source is Ethanol
CVD reactor consist of a steel body and a cylindirical ceramic heat insulator in which the hot-plate goes.
At first SEM pictures with the new CVD reactor I have seen pretty thick nanotubes. I couldn't believe the thickness. According to the scale at right bottom some of them are up to 1micron and in avarage 500 nanometers.
Can CNT have such a diameter? If not what are they? I will be having tomorrow Raman spectroscopy results.
They are carbon nanofibers, not carbon nanotubes.

That could be a good explanation, do you know why a carbon nanotube manufacturing set-up produce carbon nanofibers? What differentiates the manufacturing processes of CNTs and CNFs

I am adding the raman spectroscopy of the sample which could give more Idea.
HI, did you watch the reaction with the catalysator? The tubes are created from the grain and this gives the initial shape, SWCNT MWCNT with different diameters...It's a false idea to roll a graphene layer to obtain tubes...fibers etc
