We will be studying about the role of spirituality and gender ( 2 IVs) on coping effectiveness (DV) and we shall be using standardized scales in measuring. Can 2 way ANOVA be used in our analysis? or should we just use correlation? Thank you!
In an observational study it is no problem to use ANOVA to analyse the data. Just be careful with generalizing the results to the population and drawing causal relationships.

While gender is a fixed IV (two values?) variable, spirituality will be a tougher one to fit into an Anova. Given that spirituality is usually viewed as a continuous variable, it might be better to use a regression analysis (you will lose information making spirituality a categorical variable). Hagerman is, of course, correct, you can use Anova or regression with non-random generated sample data and have to be careful about generalization and inferring causal relationships---but this also applies to correlation on such data as well.
