Will adopting e-procurement system in organization accelerate the change from traditional procurement method to green procurement method? Is there in reality such a thing called “green e-procurement”
In my point of view, e-Procurement system is one of an important step towards green procurement.For example, e-Procurement embraces e-supplier registration, e-Purchase Order, e-invoicing & etc.There will be improvements in terms of cost savings and environmental benefit by using less volume of paper,envelopes, faxes, stamps etc. and this can in turn contribute towards green procurement
In agreement with earlier respondent of your question, i would rather say that e-procurement has provided base to green procurement in terms of administrative and internal operations of firms..
I have executed both traditional and "green " sourcing events. GHG, scope 3 is the biggest environmental difference.
For example, a traditional sourcing event may require suppliers to present their proposal. A traditional sourcing event also may require a pre sourcing event conference. Each activity requires travel which is bad for the environment.
The supplier depends on their proposal, reputation, and price to secure business in a "green sourcing event".
Real world, the sourcing tools are the same but air and surface travel creates harm to the environment!
