12 November 2019 10 8K Report

Borders are inherent linear structures in our cultural landscapes. They are as old as human civilisation and have formed our identity and landscapes for millennia. The famous Limes Romanus with Hadrian´s Wall, the Great Chinese Wall or the more recent Iron Curtain have all left a significant footprint in our everyday and exceptional landscapes. Considering ongoing migration worldwide, current migration crisis in Americas, Europe and other regions, renewal of historical and establishing of new borders, as well as the challenge of overcoming them seems to be a highly relevant issue in Europe and beyond.

The LE:NOTRE Landscape Forum 2020 Cross-Border Landscapes will focus on the issue of borders in cultural landscapes and the challenge of joint planning and management overcoming international, regional and local borders. The forum will deal with the landscape vision of a pan-European green infrastructure and its backbone - the European Green Belt, heritage and identities of borders in general and Iron Curtain in particular, the challenge of urban-rural interface across international borders with a particular focus on Bratislava and its rural surroundings in Austria and Hungary, the challenge of nature vs. agriculture with a particular focus on the protection of valuable habitats and bird species such as the Great Bustard - Otis tarda L. and other challenging issues.

One of the planned follow-ups of the forum is an international and interdisciplinary e-book on Cross-Border Landscapes.

We invite researchers, teachers, students and practitioners to submit thematic essays on landscapes along and across borders in different geographic settings and regional conditions. Essays will be peer-reviewed and if meeting formal and qualitative criteria, they will become part of the book chapters. The e-book will have ISBN and DOI and will be Open Access under Creative Common Licence.
