What are your experiences in use and research of Bluetooth devices (cellular phones, on-board units and stationary installations) as measurement or monitoring of traffic? Is it really useful for traffic monitoring or traffic measure? Is it really useful for transportation modelling?

Dear Wim, you are right, this technology is rather for monitoring and not for collecting useful data for modeling/measuring of traffic flows. But maybe someone has experience with comapring data from bluetooth and otner sensorc, like loop detectors or video detectors?
On the highway in Japan, 5-15% of MAC address can be detected as experiences. If you have match MAC address between tow points, sample size becomes very small. I heard in the case of Thailand, only 10 samples/hour could be collected between two points of a street in the city. Detection rate deeply depends on how many people on Bluetooth. Also, it depends on the class of devices and type of antenna.
Dear Atsushi, yes uoy are right. And what do you think about time response (time of connecting between mobile device in car and stationary device-receiver on the infrastructure) and speed of car - time spends by car within area of receiver range?
I think interval to match address is important than speed. When Bluetooth device tries to search MAC address, we can detect it easily even speed of a car over 60 Km/h. But, some time it sleeps. In that case, we can not get address. Depending on devices.

Dears Atsushi Fukuda and Wim Korver, I'm working now in project about Algorithm for optimal location of bluetooth (BT) detectors and other detectors (loops, ANPR's, and videodetectors) for monitoring and maybe measuring traffic. The other detectors is constant (constant number and constant location) and variables are number and location of BT detectors. And I'm looking for similar conceptions and algorithms.
