As the world is moving on towards data security and Blockchain plays a key role in India specially with geo and cultural barriers how this technology is unique to solve data security.
The essence of the blockchain is that it provides a highly robust audit trail of all transactions. The way in which it is constructed and used means that there is a multiplicity of machines which store the data contained in each transaction. By comparing and agreeing with a consensus of the majority of machines involved in the recording, Blockcahin ensures that it becomes far to expensive in terms of time and resources to try to take over the blockchain for nefarious purposes.
The biggest issue with databases generally is that anyone who is authorised, or appears to be authorised, can alter, delete or insert data at will. Using an immutable database is one way to tackle this problem, whereby the immutable database has no means to change any data contained in the database, as it is append only.
However, running any database in cloud systems also presents more challenging issues to deal with. Once an attacker gets into a cloud system and escalates sufficient privileges, there is little to prevent them from shutting down the entire cloud instance.
My view is that block-chain is mostly about integrity, and very little about other aspects of security (say, confidentiality or authenticity). Also, in order to get the promised integrity properties out of block-chain, you need to integrate it into a larger system, and this integration is far less trivial than people selling you block-chain let you believe. For example, you typically do not want full immutability; e.g. you want the capability of correcting data records that have been uploaded incorrectly to the database by mistake. Block-chains are quite poor supporting this kind of use cases.
