My question is for humanities researchers who make frequent use of a hard-copy bibliography. (I am asking in general terms - I do not wish to discuss a particular publication.)
If you have been using a volume which exists both as a print copy and in online pdf format, but a second volume now needs to be published, would you expect another volume in dual format as before, or would you want the new second volume to be published solely online with better search capabilities than a pdf can offer?
Both types have different kind of utilities. I like hard copy but difficult to carry.
Contents in a soft copy is easily searchable and easy to carry. There is great demerit. When you need the most, you might not be able to see. Computer not working, file has because corrupt, website not opening, etc.
Earlier there was an option to receive Bean Bag Newsletter ( dealing with legume publications) either in hardcopy or soft copy but now because of financial stringency publication in the form of hardcopy has been discontinued.

It seems that dual formats is preferable, since online version is easier to search , but in case of some online difficulty you have the printed version as a backup. As a rule, the printed version can be preserved for generations much better than the digital format.
