I'm using Qiagen 96 HTP DNeasy kits to extract and purify bacterial DNA from baboon gut microbiomes. I have a lot of samples, and I've used a lot of kits. I'm trying to find a way to reuse some of the plastic 96 well plates (like this one here https://bit.ly/3LMXvws) for future DNA extraction use.
Should I soak them in a bleach solution? Autoclave them?
Hi Margrethe Andreasen , I don't think you can autoclave the 96 well plates. Also, they are not made to be reused. Studies have shown significant variation in results when people tried to reuse 96 well plates. When your work is that sensitive, it is always better to use new ones rather than waste your time.
What you can do is, try washing it with 70% ethanol. Perform the same experiment in that washed plate and have a new plate as control. Check whether you get any differences in the results or not. If you don't see any difference, then try reusing it. However, it's not recommended. Good luck.
