The sample is plant aqueous extract. After performing adsorption and desorption, an unknown compound was obtain and purified by re-crystallization. But, the NMR spectrum of the compound (in D2O) did not yield any peak at 8-6 ppm chemical shifts (signatures for  phenolic groups) but got random peaks at 4.5-3.0 ppm. Are there any other compounds (like sugars) that could bind to activated carbon?
