I believe when a person is accepted in his or her soceity or community, then respected, he or she can make progress in their field or job or position. Then, if they get more famous they can be socially and politically active for their society or community.
I do not agree in total. White males are accepted far more quickly than any other; so, yes, for them, the respect ends in progress and promotion. For non-whites and women, being respected for our knowledge, skills, and thinking is slow in coming if at all. We get labels of 'over achiever', 'pushy'. 'using the race card'...so no, respect does not equate to progress in a profession.
As women or various color, first if they receive the proper respect,,,,,,,,,to be respected or not to be respected, this is the question!
