The same alloy at 500 degree Celsius is being tested under cyclic LCF experiment with 1% percent strain, one with strain hold (in tension and compression )and the other without strain hold. The one without strain hold fails at 1350 cycles with consuming strain energy density (SED) of 3600 MPa while the one with strain hold (in tension and compression) fails at 850 cycles by consuming 2400 MPa SED. I would like to know the as to what mechanisms play role in decreasing lifetime in strain hold experiment and increasing lifetime in experiment without strain-hold?
