If you attach an image of the spectrum of your sample it would be more clear give you an appropriate answer.

A fast answer if that the Co dopant are distorting the electronic structure of the CuO, may be create an intemediate band. You can calculate the Urbach tail parameter for undoped and Co doped CuO samples.
