While calculating the stress-strain curves for SS 304L at elevated temperature (upto 500 C) as per the curve fitting schemes given in ASME B & PV Section VIII Division 2 Annex 3-D, the plastic strain is appearing for the stress values even under the yield stress. And also, the plastic strain at the yield stress is also coming out be ~0.2 % instead of zero. What is the reason behind this apparent anomaly and how to account/ rectify it while using for elastic plastic analysis?

^ Dear Claudinei, I've evaluated the stress- strain curves as per BPVC 2013 SECTION VIII DIVISION 2. You may find it under the head 3-D.3 STRESS STRAIN CURVE in ANNEX 3-D.
The answer is simple, this is because over this temperature will occur the beginning of transformation to deleterious phases being the more commom the Sigma phase, these phases are responsible by this anomalous behavior of austenitic stainless steel above this temperature(500°C) and less than 900°C.For further information read about second phase particles in stainless steel, or search by the subject Sigma phase of stainless steel
