Detaselling is an important step in baby corn production where unfertilized ears are harvested ; just when tassels are about to emerge it is removed to prevent pollination.in case of normal hybrids removal of tasels is most undesirable ;obviously if sufficient pollens are not available pollination is affected and that affects seed setting;low seed setting translates into low yield.
In seed production plots female line is detaselled (it is seed parent) and there is a pollinator, too. Hybrid seed production ( seed harvested from female line is hybrid seed) depends on detaselling of female line ;improper removal means loss of genetic purity /integrity of the hybrid.
