Hello, guys. I'm a master student working with the domestication of wild strains of edible mushrooms from Brazil and during the process of isolation and maintenance of the strain cultures, sometimes we deal with a few filamentous fungal contaminants.
And I was wondering if there were any works published on common fungal contaminants in agar cultures of mushrooms and/or identification keys.
I would personally suggest these books for beginners
1. Atlas of Clinical Fungi
This book has colored picture of both fungi and the cultures.
2.Compendium of Soil Fungi
Book by K. H Domsch, Traute-Heidi Anderson, and Walter Gams.
Detailed key and several pictures (black and white)
3. Handbook of Soil Fungi By A. Nagamani - IK International Publishing House.
This book is also good, but the upper two books should suffice I feel.
Another option I would suggest is to post the pictures of both microscopic view of the fungi and the media for identification in this network. I am sure most researchers can share their expert opinion on the identification. I wish you luck, regards.
For a first approximation, a very good work is the illustrated Genera of Imperfect Fungi 4th (fourth) Edition by Barnett, Horace Leslie, Hunter, Barry B. published by Amer Phytopathological Society (1998)
