It is nothing to be proud of. However, it has a signposting function serving as an indicator showing the degree of one's activities on researcgate during a week. RG score is certainly a good stimulant.
It is a score which will definitely increase along with uploading of more and more of your research publication, contribution by asking good questions and adding good answers.
But the main achievement is reading of your article by others and reading of the articles of others by you.
One of my e -book, written in a regional language (Bengali) has already crossed 10000 reads!
( Snakes of Bengal).
I never expect reading of hard copy of such popular science book by such number of people.
My next book will also be a e -book with ISBN number and will be uploaded in RG (expected date February 2019).
I look forward to checking it every Monday I have been an experimenter most of my life collecting data at all times. Looking at the RG score and trying to correlate that to what I have done during the past week to deserve that score has been a good exercise. I pretty much understand what the input variables are and their magnitudes and how in turn they affect the RG score.
Yes, though is an indicator to my active participation here but far better than being addicted to other social media that show little repute to my academic job.
Honestly, I am not proud of my score, although the idea of this is not the highest score, it always gives a good image of activity within this community.
When ever there are numerical values, numbers, scores, grades, salaries, money, age, and many more; and that numbers are many in human beings lives, so we human beings tend to think of numbers and our life runs around that numbers, like they are nucleus and we are electrons; see, if RG score does not matter to all, why we have so many threads asking all the more this question again and again, I am not criticizing for asking that question as I have no right to do so, but, I want to share that anything in number forms gets so much attraction of us , why?
For most of men, "sporty" personality type is characteristic. We always have to be first or best. This is normal, such is the nature (Often it occurs in women, I name it a "bearish character," as we say: "with whom you deal, from that you take (S kem povedioshcja - ot togo i naberioshcja - Rus.)" - it is difficult to survive in rough male world...). Initally - the coolest toy, the best bike - right up to the thickest wallet, the best luxiry car and the highest Hirsch (Big boys play with big toys). No one (or overwhelming majority?) is free from this ambition. But the problem is how to treat it - with self-irony, or seriously... RG score from the category of such things (symbolic capital) that you can be proud of, or you can watch it with a smile,... but still work to improve.
I agree dr.Hassan Nima , dr. Rusudan Labadze , Segun Michael Abegunde with the answers beautiful and realistic ... For me, the pride and happiness is the real scientific academic communication and knowledge in the way of thinking researchers, "scientific thinking" and active communication with them, which increases my abilities and experiences that I found through this scientific site ... I wish everyone happiness and creativity .
ResearchGate has been a great platform to get connected to several researchers and their valuable papers, get access to several questions and answers from which I get so much to learn. RG Score is just a number for me, nothing to feel proud of but yes higher the score it is a feel-good thing definitely.
It is not the matter of proud.. According to me, RG is the platform through which I can share my research and also be in touch with the current emerging research. It also helps in networking and collaborating.
RG score is being used by the leading universities and institutes of the world as an integral metrics of their students and staff being RG
members. Here below are some links to the relevant information. Also, you can click to enlarge figures above to see RG Score Distribution for either Peking University, or Sapienza University of Rome, or Moscow State University, or California Institute of technology.
This info gives a certain feeling as to how the relevant organizations throughout the world consider the value and importance of the RG score.
In my opinion, we should proud of RG Score as an item to illustrate our contribution in RG. Moreover, it is better to focus on improvement of our knowledge and information using this beneficial academic forum.
It's an interesting idea. I'm not sure I'd be proud of it, until it is/can be taken more seriously. One of the issues is the closed nature of the scoring system. It makes it more suspect. But at the same time, if the score calculations were made public, people could game the system, and that's not good.
I think RG score is an output of :- research which was already classified in a project, all types of recommendations( research, questions and answers, projects update) finally the reads to your shared scientific work.
I love to have more impact through publications. RG score is not the only measure or appropriate measure of researcher's worth on this platform. If up good, if low no hassles, more learning, interacting from other respected members.
It isn't about pride, but rather a satisfaction that various intellectual, scientific, and social communication activities are being properly recognized by colleagues researchers, and complex artificial intelligence algorithms. It is certainly a competition. However, it is the one that everybody wins irrespective of a particular RG score.
