Art is one of the additions that decorate the interiors, What do you prefer, 2D (paintings) or 3D (sculptures)? Do you prefer antiques or modern style? Local traditional art or International art?
Art provides a true picture on life. Art may be the most sensitive signalling opportunity of practically all changes in life and society. Without art individual and community survival is impossible. I personally paint each day, sing and listen to classical and folk music as often as possible.
I prefer what is valuable (I think) but I cannot tolerate kitsch.

Of course dear Marcel, the defining of kitsch is very personally. And I think, if we talk of kitsch we never should judge about the taste of other humans.
Jeanan - I think art is important, but as with music, literature and anything else, my tastes are rather eclectic. Statues are not very practical in most US homes, but most people hang paintings or prints. We have some prints from the (US) National Gallery of Art (we like impressionists) and others we (my wife and I) picked up in the US Southwest. Also, my grandfather was an artist and we have some of his paintings. He did portraits and landscapes, though I'm partial to his landscapes. When his family came to the US, the way I've been told, his parents decided he would be a commercial artist, but he liked to do art for the sake of art. He died many years ago, but was 'by all accounts' a very nice man. I'm happy to have some of his art. - Jim
Yes, I am interested in art very much. During my school years, I was always at the top in drawing & calligraphy. Later on, I used my talent in education and in helping relatives & neighbors “free of charge” & I was pleased that they won on several occasions. At home, I have decorations in every room & 2D paintings as well as few sculpture but many of them are not my production. I like any art provided that it is not random scribbles under the title of modern art. Art adds a beauty touch & a soothing feeling to our lives.
I would not live and I could not survive without Art.
I believe that the aesthetic of the human body, and the urge to keep it , was indeed my moto to study Medicine, and the same feelings brought me to fall in love with Anatomy and to proceed with teaching anatomy.
I followed a short course on arts, previously to entering Medicine. And this was strangely helpful for my teaching profession. I draw a lot in my lectures.
My house is crowded with paintings and I keep drawing for pleasure.
I hope to someday have the financial stability, to finish a course on arts or arts' history.
Decorating home with a professional interior designer is nice. However all these decorations are a kind of static and after some time you almost forgot that there are there. On the other hand, music is dynamic, very easy to install a good system in all of your of house. In my house music is always on, even this time I am writing this answer!
I believe that the ideal is a right mix of past, present and future, perhaps supported by the good taste of an expert (I have it at home: my daughter designer).
Art appears in my home for various reasons: originally I used It as a teaching device for my children when It came to painting and classical music, but eventually, when they matured and moved away, it has come to evoke many happy memories. Familiar paintings and pieces resemble friends. You can count on them to do their best for you without seeking compensation.
I think that every form of art is necessary in everyday life. I prefer the paintings by virtual tours in museums around the world and in person at the Art Museum of São Paulo (MASP) and Pinacoteca (São Paulo, Brazil).
As modern Brazilian artist I highlight Romero Britto, who has colorful and lively paintings.
Dear Vanessa, I was delighted to see the brilliant colors that adorn Romero Britto's paintings, because they evoke one of most extraordinary features of Brazilian nature: its colorfulness! When I visited Brazil during two successive summers, each time the oranges and reds of the flowers wounded my iris, and the blueness of the skies left me breathless. There is also a beautiful rhythm in the repetition of forms in those paintings, and I was impressed in Brazil by the graceful rhythm of life.
Our dear friend Kamal has an exquisite antique collection. I don't collect antiques-- other than those inherited from my parents, and I give them away to my delighted children--. This art is more necessary to their homes than to mine. It forms part of their inheritance, and I love giving inter vivos gifts.
The paintings I have hung around my home are mere reproductions of works that bring back memories. Herewith I append a reproduction of Picasso's "Three Musicians" (1921). Around this painting I based an interdisciplinary lecture, "The Play Spirit of the Spanish Twenties," offered by me as a Ph.D. candidate at Brown University. Unknown to me, the lecture and the accompanying painting would be my agenda for all my subsequent research: it would be interdisciplinary. philosophical, deal with the 1920s in Spain, and would encompass music, poetry, essay, and theatre.
I am too late with this thread. Here is an example of Philips radio which is older than 100 years and still in function! I was inspired by @Kamal's collection. But, definitely, I do prefer paintings and other 2D work techniques!
Yes any piece of art - in my opinion- is essential for the space. It supports the sense of at-homeness. A piece of poetry, Aya from Quran, wisdom quote, natural scene, perfect painting, .....are very sensible. The 3D pieces have stronger influence . But, foe 2D and 3D, I prefer the pieces that have traditional content in an modern style. I prefer also pieces made from old materials. They give me the sense of "oldness" "احساس بعتاقة الشيء"
Arabic calligraphy is very beautiful art but, for me, it should have modern style ......
I think this part of interior design should be taken as personal matter for the client. designer should put his touch but not outside client personal interests...
