As I know, MOAH is defined as Mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons contain at least one aromatic ring in according to JRC 2019 (JRC115694). However, SGS told me that even if my ink sample contains xylene or toluene, the amount of MOAH(1-7rings) will not be detected, because they are not MOAH.
Please tell me why?
The chemical and percentage composition of the individual mineral oil fractions can vary greatly depending on the origin and production process of the mineral oil products obtained from crude oil. Thus, crude and technical mineral oils contain relatively high contents of MOAH, whereas refined medicinal mineral oils usually contain only traces or no detectable contents of aromatic components.
In commercial laboratory, MAOH is usually refer to multiple rings aromatics or naphthalene like structures. Further more, the specific species is calibrated for area under the peak. So if it not included in the calibration, the commercial lab would usually inform you that it is not detectable.
i assume that the analysis would be conducted will be GCM.
