I've recently came across a strange 38%Ti-26%Ni-25%Al-11%W alloy, which we received instead of supposed Ti-Al-V samples. Seems this alloy is mostly amorphoys, the SAED pattern is a halo. I was unable to find any literature concerning any similar alloys. Did any of you have any experience with such alloys or seen any related literatire?

How did you prepare the sample for the TEM analysis? Sometimes amorphous areas in a TEM sample are created during sample preparation. I think you should do XRD to get information from the bulk.

The sample was prepared by the standard procedure - mechanical grinding and ion etching. It is not amorphous just in local areas, it has no crystalline structure at all. Ahmad Zafari
