After the synthesis I have the mixture of TaSi2, TaC, SiC, Si3N4 and MgF2. I need to clear my mixture from the MgF2. What kind of acid etching can I use to selectively dissolve the MgF2?
You could probably use dilute nitric acid, MgF2 should have some solubility according to Merck Index. The others I think should be inert and insoluble.
It doesn't say. If you have a slab of the mixture I think it will take a long time but I would go for fairly dilute maybe 5%. I also had a look in the CRC book and one of the components was soluble in HF and HNO3 mixture, so depending on how much HF is produced that might be a problem. Hope that helps
