I am running an experiment wherein I am studying academic motivation among sports persons and how that differentiates their personality from individuals not engaging in any sports activities.
I do not know of any, but want to offer a thought. If you will be comparing athletes with non-athletes, you won't want a measure that works only for athletes. So any measure of academic anxiety would work, for example. Or any measure of academic motivation.
If you wanted to compare the motive patterns typical among athletes vs. non-athletes (i.e., which motives are more salient for members of one group vs. another) you might consider something like the old Edwards Personal Preference Schedule, but I'm sure there are more recent inventories of motives as well.
I guess any instrument will do. Here is a paper I just found that might help you to get a clear picture: Comeaux and Harrison, 2011, A Conceptual Model of Academic Success for Student–Athletes.
Dear Steven, thank you so much for you inputs, i was simply interested in knowing if any previous research had concentrated on just athletes and developed a scale to measure the differences in motivation for individuals engaging in different types of sports.
