I've been reading Mid-life: a philosophical guide (2017) by Kieran Setiya on the feelings of emptiness and regret experienced by many Westerners in middle age. Is this largely a Western phenomena? I would be VERY interested in hearing from colleagues in Asia, Africa and the Middle East on this. I'm wondering if this is somewhat a manifestation of Western individuality, capitalism and the influence of Christainity. Or is it part of the general human condition? What do you think?
