I would like to hear the opinion of the community about software to perform group analysis on EEG data, possibly including group x condition interactions. I usually write my own scripts but it would be good to have some automatic routine. I tried out the STUDY feature of EEGlab but I find it a bit cumbersome. I am also in the process of trying the free package Brainstorm. Would love to hear if there are other suggestions.
A new tool named SCORE has been developed by a European consortium. It is about to be published in EPILEPSIA, should be available electronically within the next 2-3 montths.
I recently learn to use Fieldtrip, a package of libraries for MATLAB. If you are familiar with MATLAB I think it woul be interesting.

the Fieldtrip toolbox provides a rigorous framework for statistical testing of EEG data. For a long time it wasn't possible though to do a group x condition analysis. Recently Saskia helpling from the Institute for Medical Psychology of the Goethe University Frankfurt has contributed the necessary code. If it's not in Fieldtrip yet, you may contact her directly. Another alternative is SPM8 for EEG/MEG which has a different statistical aproach but should also work well for a group x condition design.

A simple and easy way to perform group analysis on EEG data (cross-spectra, ERPs, source data, connectivity measures) is provided by the LORETA-software tool by Pascual-Marqui. It can be managed via the graphical user interface. Although it does not include ANOVA computation, you can perform group analysis on contrasts or regression analysis for external variables. I attached a screen shot of the main statistical options from the GUI.

I have played a bit with the STUDY option in EEGLAB.
In the latest eeglab version it works a bit better (or maybe I have just been more patient :)
I have tried performing a group X condition analysis on the resting spectral power before and after a task in group of PD patients and age matched controls. The issue is: for some reason that I still have to explore, the PD group has on average much higher power than controls, therefore all contrasts by groups are significant on the whole scalp. So I thought it would be good to normalize data in some way and I used the option of "subtracting the average individual spectrum" but the results I obtained were weird (see picture attached).
As you can see, basically the conditions 1 and 2 (which would be pre and post task) look just equal and opposite in sign. That does not happen when I don t subtract the average spectrum, so I guess something in that operation does not work the way I supposed it would.

The Mass Univariate ERP Toolbox for EEGLAB/ERPLAB is good for simple ERP analyses (comparing two conditions or groups of participants) and has nice interactive GUIs that are not yet available in Fieldtrip or EEGLAB/ERPLAB.
