Currently, I am trying to compare around 100 nested catchments concerning their catchment attributes. One of the attributes I want to use for the comparison is the “narrowness” of the catchments. To do this I calculated the minimum bounding geometry in the form of a rectangle for all catchments (see attached file). This gives me a rough measure of the maximum width and length of the catchments, which in turn allows me to calculate an aspect ratio for all catchments. Are there already established ways to classify the aspect ratios of catchments? An example for what I am looking for would be something like: aspect ratio 1-0.8 = "equal sided", 0.8-0.4 = "narrow", 0.4-0 = "very narrow".
