Hello, I'm wondering if there are there differences of expression levels of tumor markers in the same patient.
For example, in a same patient who has diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, would the expression level of CD10 or other markers on immunohistochemistry be same in different biopsy samples, or would it be different?
Would the expression level be different between the neck lymph node and inguinal lymph node?
If so, are there any references or personal experience?
Kind a lame question, but I could not get clear answers.

According my expierence it may be so. Me and my collegues explained it by fact that even Hematological and Lymph node tumors are cosists from some tumor cells populations. That is why prevalence of different clones of tumor cells iin different lymph nodes may be the cause of different expression of CD10. In my expierence I saw ductal breast carcinoma with different expression of PR,ER,Her2/neu and Hodgkin lymphoma with different expression of CD15, fascin.

I totally agree with Dmitry.... especially in cases of ER/PR/HER2 i have personal experiences as well... as far as lymph nodes are concerned there may be difference of expression not only between inguinal and cervical lymph nodes but also in different areas of the same lymph node...???

The concept of tumor heterogeneity applies here. Intratumoral heterogeneity is well known in breast cancer. And also, it is well known that metastasis might have different immunohistochemistry profiles from the primary tumor. Clonal differences and expansion of those with survival advantage will persist and metastasize and their immunohistochemical profiles might be different from the primary. Many examples are well documented.
